Job Description

Last Update: 3/19/24

As a hospitalist in a rural community your primary responsibility will be to provide comprehensive medical care to patients admitted to the hospital. This includes diagnosing and treating a wide range of medical conditions, coordinating with specialists when necessary, and ensuring the well-being of your patients during their hospital stay. This position is a higher-level acuity role.

Job Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:
1. Patient Care: You will evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients admitted to the hospital. This may involve managing chronic conditions, addressing acute medical issues, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals. Ability to run procedures is required.
2. Coordination: Hospitalists often act as a central point of contact for patient care. You'll work closely with nurses, specialists, and other healthcare providers to ensure that patients receive timely and appropriate care.
3. Shift Work: Hospitalists typically work in shifts, including nights and weekends. This allows for continuity of care for patients throughout their hospital stay.
4. Emergency Response: In rural areas, hospitalists may be called upon to respond to emergency situations, especially if there is no on-site emergency department. You may need to stabilize patients before they can be transferred to a larger medical facility.
5. Collaboration: Work collaboratively with the emergency department team, including physicians, nurses, paramedics, and other support staff. Consult with specialists and arrange for the transfer of patients requiring advanced care to larger facilities if necessary.
6. Documentation: Maintain accurate and thorough medical records, documenting patient assessments, treatments, and responses to interventions. Complete required documentation for billing and legal purposes in a timely manner.

• Current NY state licensure as a Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Physician Assistant.
