Opportunity Description

Mercy Medical Group (MMG), a multi-specialty group with more than 500 healthcare providers in the Sacramento region, is looking to add a full-time Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to our busy Gastroenterology Department in the Sacramento area. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in Gastroenterology will be responsible for delivering comprehensive healthcare services to patients with gastrointestinal disorders. This position involves a combination of inpatient and outpatient responsibilities, providing high-quality care across various healthcare settings. The APP will work closely with the medical team to evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients' gastrointestinal conditions, ensuring optimal patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:
Patient Assessment and Diagnosis:

  • Conduct thorough assessments of patients, including medical histories, physical examinations, and diagnostic tests.
  • Collaborate with the medical team to establish accurate diagnoses and develop appropriate treatment plans.
  • Monitor patient progress, review lab results, and adjust treatment plans as necessary.

Treatment and Management:

  • Provide direct patient care, including prescribing medications, administering treatments, and performing procedures within the scope of practice.
  • Educate patients and their families about gastrointestinal conditions, treatment options, and lifestyle modifications.
  • Monitor and manage chronic conditions, ensuring effective disease management and symptom control.

Inpatient Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the management of gastroenterology patients admitted to the hospital.
  • Conduct daily rounds, assess patients' conditions, and collaborate with the medical team to coordinate care and treatment plans.
  • Able to perform and assist in GI-related procedures as needed and based on expertise.

Outpatient Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations of patients in the outpatient setting, including initial consultations and follow-up visits.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests, such as imaging studies or laboratory tests.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans, including medication management, dietary recommendations, and lifestyle modifications.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide coordinated and multidisciplinary care.
  • Communicate and coordinate with patients' primary care providers or specialists, ensuring continuity of care.
  • Document patient encounters accurately and comprehensively in the electronic medical record.

Continuous Learning and Professional Development:

  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in gastroenterology through ongoing education, conferences, and professional development activities.
  • Maintain appropriate certifications and licensures, adhering to all legal and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Advanced Practice Provider certification (e.g., Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant). Specialization in Gastroenterology is a plus!
  • Current state licensure and board certification as an Advanced Practice Provider.
  • Experience in gastroenterology or a related field is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in performing gastroenterology procedures (e.g., endoscopies, colonoscopies) is desirable.
  • Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and handle a diverse patient population.
