Job Description:
This role involves providing comprehensive primary and urgent care services to adult incarcerated patients in a medium-security correctional facility, with occasional exposure to a maximum-security medical unit. The Nurse Practitioner will manage a wide range of health concerns, including chronic disease management, acute illness evaluation, medication management, and preventive care. Daily work includes performing exams, interpreting diagnostic tests, and developing treatment plans while collaborating closely with physicians and onsite clinical staff. The patient population presents with diverse medical needs, often requiring careful assessment, clear communication, and sound clinical judgment. Job Responsibilities
• Conduct comprehensive physical examinations and health assessments for incarcerated individuals.
• Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to determine patient conditions and healthcare needs.
• Diagnose acute and chronic illnesses within the NP’s specialty scope and develop treatment plans.
• Prescribe medications and therapeutic interventions in collaboration with a licensed physician.
• Document clinical findings, treatment plans, and patient progress thoroughly and accurately.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
• Educate patients on disease prevention, treatment plans, and general health promotion.
• Refer patients to physicians or specialized resources when medical needs exceed NP scope.
Qualifications
• Active Nurse Practitioner license in the state of New York.
• National NP certification through AANP, ANCC, or a similar accredited organization (preferred).
• Specialty certifications as required by state regulations or facility needs.
• At least one year of experience as a Nurse Practitioner (correctional experience preferred).
• OR two or more years of primary care or urgent care experience.
• Active BLS and DEA certification.
• Ability to maintain required collaboration agreements per state guidelines.
• Compliance with all federal, state, and local practice standards.
• TB/PPD clearance and health certificate if required.
