Join Our Team as a Locum Nurse Practitioner – General Medicine Houston, TX

Are you a dedicated Nurse Practitioner looking to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Veterans while enjoying flexible scheduling and competitive pay? We are seeking experienced and compassionate General Medicine Providers to support Compensation & Pension exams and Separation Health Assessments nationwide. This is a unique opportunity to serve those who have served our country, with the flexibility to work in your own office or at a designated facility, all while enjoying excellent compensation and support.

In this role, you will conduct interview-based examinations, including physical assessments such as range of motion and muscle strength testing, without providing treatment or prescriptions. Your work will directly contribute to the vital process of evaluating Veterans’ health needs, supporting their benefits claims, and ensuring they receive the care they deserve.

Required Skills
  • Valid Nurse Practitioner license in Texas
  • Experience in general medicine, family medicine, internal medicine, or orthopedic surgery
  • Strong interview and physical assessment skills
  • Ability to perform Compensation & Pension exams and Separation Health Assessments
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Nice to Have Skills
  • Prior experience with Veteran health evaluations
  • Knowledge of VA procedures and documentation
  • Familiarity with compensation and pension exam requirements
  • Certification in relevant specialties (e.g., DMA certification)

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Master’s degree or higher in Nursing
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience, preferably in general or internal medicine
  • Experience conducting medical assessments or exams for insurance or government agencies

Other Requirements
  • Must have own office within 50 miles of Houston, TX, or be willing to work on a per diem basis at a VES facility if located within 50 miles
  • Ability to perform exams on a PRN, ongoing basis, with flexible scheduling (half-day or full-day shifts)
  • Quick credentialing and onboarding process
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation if working independently
  • Willingness to complete mandatory training and perform initial exams to qualify for a bonus

Compensation & Benefits
  • Hourly Rate: $402.00
  • Flat Rate for 4-hour shifts: $600
  • Flat Rate for full-day shifts (5+ hours): $1200
  • One-time bonus of $650 for completing training and first exams
  • Weekly pay via direct deposit
  • Comprehensive medical benefits (W-2)
  • Paid sick time in accordance with applicable laws
  • Licensure, certification, travel, and other reimbursements when applicable
