Job Description:

This Nurse Practitioner role is based within a correctional medicine setting, providing primary care to incarcerated adults. The position involves managing a wide range of medical conditions, including chronic illnesses, urgent care needs, and substance use disorders. Practitioners will work closely with mental health professionals and custody staff to deliver comprehensive, compassionate care in a secure environment. Flexibility, strong clinical judgment, and a collaborative mindset are essential for success in this dynamic and impactful setting.

Job Responsibilities

• Conduct daily provider sick call appointments and patient visits.
• Perform physical exams, diagnostic testing, and manage chronic and urgent medical conditions.
• Review charts and renew medications as needed.
• Write discharge medication orders and develop treatment plans.
• Collaborate with mental health staff for patients with co-occurring conditions.
• Document all patient interactions and treatment plans in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
• Educate patients on health promotion, disease prevention, and treatment options.
• Ensure compliance with ACH policies, safety standards, and confidentiality protocols.

Qualifications

• Active Nurse Practitioner license in the state of California.
• Certification by a nationally accredited nursing organization (e.g., AANP, ANCC) preferred.
• BLS CPR certification.
• DEA registration with expiration date.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner preferred.
• Prior correctional health experience preferred.
• Ability to maintain collaboration agreements per California state requirements.
