Job description Family Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant – Inpatient Psychiatry (Locum Tenens)
Location: Tacoma, Washington
Schedule: 0.6 FTE (24 hours per week)
Setting: Inpatient Psychiatry
EMR: Epic

Position Overview
An established behavioral health facility in Tacoma, WA is seeking a Family Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide inpatient medical coverage on a psychiatric unit. The role involves collaborating with an experienced care team in a supportive and structured environment.

Assignment Details
- Start Date: ASAP
- Duration: Ongoing (long-term locum or permanent option)
- Schedule:
- Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 4.8 hours per day (cover one floor)
- Wednesday: 9.6 hours (cover two floors)
- Weekly Total: 24 hours (0.6 FTE)
- Patient Load: ~35 patients per floor (provider covers one floor, or two on Wednesdays)
- Call: None

- Environment: Inpatient psychiatry (primary care-level medical management)
- Holidays: May include coverage around New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas (based on facility need)

Responsibilities
- Perform routine History & Physicals for new admissions
- Manage acute and chronic medical conditions for psychiatric inpatients
- Complete medical portions of treatment plans as part of the interdisciplinary care team
- Collaborate with psychiatric providers regarding co-occurring medical and psychiatric issues
- Prescribe and monitor medications as appropriate
- Order, review, and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests
- Provide withdrawal management support when needed
- Document all medical care accurately and comprehensively
- Support antimicrobial stewardship and best-practice medication management
Requirements
- Active Washington State ARNP or PA-C license
- DEA, NPI, and prescriptive authority
- BLS (AHA) certification
- Experience in family medicine, geriatric, or young adult populations
- Comfort working independently in an inpatient psychiatric setting
