Hybrid Float APP/Clinical Inbox Specialist (PA or CRNP – Full-Time)


Location: UPMC in Central PA – Primary Care

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM (Varied)


Overview:

UPMC in Central PA is seeking a Physician Assistant or Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner to join its Primary Care team in a hybrid Float and Inboxologist role. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced APP who enjoys variety, collaboration, and making a meaningful impact on access and care coordination across primary care practices.

The successful candidate will provide short-term clinical support at multiple clinical sites providing acute care and serve as an Inboxologist, managing Epic in-basket responsibilities to help reduce the administrative burden on providers and improve continuity of care.



Position Highlights:

  • Provide acute patient care at UPMC Primary Care practices within a defined region, filling in during periods of provider leave, transition, or high demand.
  • Deliver same-day acute care during business hours, using a patient-centered medical home (PCMH) model.
  • Support care teams by managing Epic in-basket messages, including lab results, refill requests, and patient communications.
  • Collaborate with office staff, physicians, and other APPs to ensure continuity, safety, and timeliness of care.
  • Participate in a robust onboarding experience, with access to mentorship and educational support through UPMC’s Transition to Practice program.




Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Current licensure and certification to practice in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in family medicine, urgent care, or a similar outpatient setting required.
  • Strong working knowledge of Epic EMR and in-basket workflows is essential.
  • Willingness to be flexible and adaptable to meet evolving demands of shifting clinics and inbox responsibilities
  • Excellent clinical judgment, adaptability, and communication skills.
  • Must obtain and maintain hospital privileges as required by the practice.
