The Indian Health Service (IHS) in Chinle, Arizona, is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our outpatient services team on a 1-year locum contract. The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary team providing high-quality healthcare to the American Indian and Alaska Native population. This role involves managing patient care in an outpatient setting, including diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care, with a strong focus on culturally sensitive care and community health.

Job Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive outpatient care to patients across all ages, focusing on diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and education.
• Work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver holistic and patient-centered care.
• Participate in the development and implementation of patient management plans, record patient progress notes, and communicate with referring physicians.
• Perform physical examinations, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and prescribe medications or other treatments.
• Provide guidance and counsel on health maintenance and disease prevention with an emphasis on the cultural and social needs of the population.
• Participate in community health programs and outreach activities as required.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to federal, state, and IHS regulations and policies.
• Commit to continuous education and professional development to ensure the highest level of care.

Qualifications

• Current and unrestricted license as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in any state
• Board Certification as an NP or PA.
• Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in primary care or related field preferred.
• Strong clinical skills with the ability to manage a variety of patient situations in an outpatient setting.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with patients, families, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
• Commitment to providing culturally competent care to the American Indian and Alaska Native population.
• CPR, BLS, ACLS, certification is required.

Working Hours

8-5pm Monday-Friday
Weeknight On-Call/Standby - 15 hours - 5pm-8am
