Primary function:

The Nurse Practitioner is an integral member of the Obstetrics and Gynecology outpatient practice and provides comprehensive care within her/his/their scope of practice in collaboration with, and as an integral member of, a multidisciplinary health care team. The practice is located within the hospital facility and primarily services Medicaid and the underserved population. One of the clinical responsibilities for this position is as a partner in the Jefferson Latina Clinic, a clinic on Tuesday afternoons that serves primarily uninsured Spanish-speaking pregnant patients. The provider would see patients in collaboration with the physician and care coordination team."

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Independently conduct patient visits in the outpatient office
  • Evaluate and treat patients within the APP’s scope of practice including prenatal, postpartum, and comprehensive gynecologic outpatient care across the lifespan
  • Order and collect data using appropriate assessment techniques, relevant supporting diagnostic information and diagnostic procedures when indicated
  • Implement appropriate treatment and reevaluation of patients after treatment
  • Perform office procedures consistent with privileges and competency validation
  • Complete timely and thorough documentation of patient encounters
  • Provide shared oversight of patient portal messages
  • Perform and/or supervise nurses performing phone triage for patients
  • Collaborate with colleagues to provide appropriate referrals for patients requiring care outside of the APP’s scope of practice
  • Provide appropriate patient teaching
  • Maintain ongoing communication and collaboration with interdisciplinary health care team.
  • Facilitate and communicate with patient, family and staff to promote continuity of care
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to patient comfort, privacy, and cultural considerations
  • Enhance professional growth and development through participation in continuing education
  • Attend department meetings and serve on committees if indicated
  • Assist in the education of learners within the department
  • Demonstrate professional behavior in patient and colleague interactions
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing
  • Current Pennsylvania RN and NP license
  • Current DEA required/ eligible
  • National Board Certification in one of the following areas:
    • Women’s health/gender-related nurse practitioner
    • Family or adult nurse practitioner
  • Preferred: 1 year experience as a NP in an OBGYN office
  • BLS certification
  • Bilingual, Spanish & English required
