Job description
Amergis Health looking for Nurse Practitioner to provide primary care in a secure correctional facility for adult incarcerated males (ages 18+). This provider is responsible for evaluating, diagnosing, and managing both acute and chronic medical conditions within their NP specialty. Work is performed in collaboration with a supervising physician. The NP will provide comprehensive medical care, including physical assessments, diagnostic workup, treatment planning, and ongoing management, ensuring continuity and quality of care for the population served. Job Responsibilities
Serve as the primary care provider for incarcerated adult males.
Perform physical examinations and complete medical histories.
Diagnose medical conditions and create treatment plans within NP scope.
Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests.
Record clinical findings and document patient encounters accurately.
Prescribe medications and therapeutic interventions as appropriate.
Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary teams.
Submit care plans and goals for periodic physician review.
Refer patients to physicians or specialist resources as clinically indicated.
Ensure compliance with facility protocols, regulatory standards, and NY State NP practice requirements.
Qualifications
• Certifications: BLS, DEA
• Licensure: Active New York NP license
○ Will not accept candidates without active NY licensure
• Experience: Minimum 1 year NP experience
○ Correctional healthcare experience strongly preferred
• Education: NP certification in specialty field approved by the NYSED
Background: Clean background; no malpractice or licensure actions preferred
Working Hours
Start Date: February 2, 2026
Duration: 26-week increments (up to 2 years)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM
On-Call: None
Patient Volume: 6–10 patients per day.
Adult male incarcerated population (ages 18+)
Travel/Lodging: Not offered

Strong experience in acute and chronic care management
Ability to work independently within scope
Strong documentation and EMR skills
Ability to manage medically complex patients
Experience with underserved or high‑acuity patient populations
