Neonatal Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant (Neonatology)
While primarily based at Utah Valley Hospital, once fully oriented this APP may float to American Fork Hospital, a level II special care nursery.
Full time and fully benefits-eligible, our APPs typically work 3 12-hour shifts per week, which will include rotating day, night, weekend, and holiday responsibilities.
Relocation assistance is available for experienced candidates.
We require our Neonatal APPs to either have board certification as Neonatology Nurse Practitioner or, if a Physician Assistant, have one or more years' experience providing clinical care in a newborn ICU.
Job Essentials
This position is accountable for the provision of patient care and other duties as permitted by licensure and defined within Credentialing and Privileging documentation (hospital), Credentialing and Scope of Practice (Medical Group), Collaboration Agreement or other similar documentation as appropriate.
Clinical Practice:
- Manages critically ill and premature infants in the NICU with complex health issues including resuscitation, assessment, diagnosis, medication management, ventilation management, treatment, and timely documentation. Daily rounding with the interdisciplinary medical team.
- Orders and performs medical tests and procedures specific to the NICU population.
- Consults and coordinates with other pediatric healthcare providers.
- Educates and supports parents, guardians, APP students, and staff in the care of NICU patients.
- Continual participation in weekly learning opportunities and developing for optimal NICU patient care and outcomes.
Education:
- Conducts and/or coordinates education to increase the knowledge of patient, patient family, and others. Provides appropriate instruction based on patient needs to support the continuum of care.
- Trains other staff in areas of clinical expertise. Provides teaching of students as appropriate to increase their clinical knowledge and ensure safe patient care.
- Stays abreast of current trends in healthcare practice and participate in continuing medical education to ensure optimal clinical knowledge and effective patient care skill.
Consultation/Collaboration:
- Coordinates and collaborates patient care efforts with other care providers.
- Communicates clinical information timely, accurately, thoroughly, and appropriately to other providers of patient care.
- May collaborate with other care providers in the effective sharing of practice expertise.
Research:
- May participate in research and utilizes evidence-based practice to promote quality patient care, protocol development, care process model development, and best practice standards for assigned patient population.
- Supports professional development through research processes.
Minimum Requirements
Current state license as an Advance Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA).
Certification as a Physician Assistant or Neonatal Nurse Practitioner
State Controlled Substance License II through V.
Federal DEA Certificate II through V.
BLS Certification for Healthcare Providers.
Other certification as required (e.g. ACLS, PALS, TNCC, NRP).
