Position Overview
Under a collaborative agreement with a physician, the Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) provides prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum medical care, as well as treatment and education for obstetrical and gynecological patients in accordance with established midwifery practice guidelines.
This role supports patients throughout the continuum of women's health while working in partnership with physicians and a multidisciplinary care team.
What You'll Do
Clinical Care

Provide prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum care for low-risk and at-risk obstetrical and gynecological patients.

Assess, diagnose, and manage patient care using accepted clinical standards.

Collaborate with physicians and specialists such as Maternal Fetal Medicine when higher-risk cases require additional management.

Deliver outpatient and inpatient obstetrical care in accordance with hospital protocols.
Patient Evaluation & Treatment

Obtain comprehensive health histories and physical examinations.

Order and interpret diagnostic and laboratory tests.

Explain procedures, preparation, and expected outcomes to patients and families.
Patient Education & Continuity of Care

Provide well-woman care and education across the life cycle.

Assist with referral follow-up and coordinate care with referral sources.

Deliver discharge instructions and ensure appropriate follow-up care.
Team Collaboration & Quality Care

Participate in OB/GYN call rotation with MD/DO backup.

Maintain high-quality patient documentation and records.

Participate in quality improvement and assurance initiatives.

Support staff and student education.

Participate in accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities.
Research & Evidence-Based Practice
-
Utilize current research and evidence-based decision-making in clinical practice.

Support IRB-approved clinical research and trials when applicable.
Additional Responsibilities

Participate in a team-based approach to patient care, ensuring effective communication and continuity of care.

Initiate emergency stabilization interventions with the rapid response team when necessary.

Support development and review of policies, procedures, and standing orders.

Provide culturally responsive care that respects cultural, linguistic, spiritual, gender, and age-specific needs.

Required Licenses & Certifications

Nurse Midwife Furnishing Number or Nurse Practitioner Furnishing Number

Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) – American Midwifery Certification Board

Education
Preferred: Master’s Degree
Experience
Required: One year of experience as a Certified Nurse Midwife
Additional Requirements
Credentialing through the Medical Staff Interdisciplinary Practice Committee is required.
