Job description
Provides healthcare to essentially healthy women of childbearing age. This practice occurs within a healthcare system to deliver high quality care with collaborating obstetricians.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesEssential Functions:
- Performs accurate history and physical examination.
- Provides care in an ambulatory outpatient setting to women including ordering and evaluation of diagnostic tests and management of minor complications.
- Provides inpatient obstetrical care for essentially healthy women including labor management, delivery of infants, repair of lacerations/episiotomy and management of minor complications. Initiates emergency care as clinically indicated.
- Identifies deviations from normal and consults, co-manages or refers as appropriate as stated in the Collaborative Agreement.
- Provides individualized teaching and counseling utilizing the midwifery philosophy as defined by the American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM) and System Guidelines.
- Completes necessary documentation.
- Participates in research projects and continuing education as appropriate.
- Instructs and supervises students and residents as appropriate.
- Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.
- Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
- Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.
- Performs other related duties as identified.

Minimum Education:
- Bachelors Degree Required
- Masters Degree Preferred
- 2 years Relevant experience. Required
- Licensed Registered Nurse Upon Hire Required or
- Registered Nurse Multi State License Upon Hire Required and
- Licensed Midwife Upon Hire Required and
- Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required
- Appropriate Clinical specialty certification from American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB). Upon Hire Required and
- Graduation from an accredited school of Nurse-Midwifery. Upon Hire Required
- Considerable degree of independent judgment.
- Excellent interpersonal/communications skills.
