Arc Health is urgently seeking a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) or Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP) to provide exceptional, high-quality outpatient care at a Great Plains Area Indian Health Service (IHS) hospital in southern South Dakota. This role serves the American Indian/Alaska Native population and offers a meaningful opportunity to deliver compassionate, mission-driven healthcare in a rural and underserved community.

About the Facility & Community

This Great Plains IHS hospital is a 35-bed comprehensive medical/surgical facility located in Rosebud, South Dakota, and serves as the primary healthcare provider for members of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe (Sicangu Oyate) and surrounding communities. The hospital’s mission is to raise the physical, mental, social, and spiritual health of American Indians and Alaska Natives to the highest level.

South Dakota offers abundant outdoor recreation including hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, boating, birdwatching, and snowshoeing, along with access to beautiful parks and natural landscapes.

Schedule

  • Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

  • Some evenings or weekends may be designated clinic days

  • Minimum 30-minute lunch break

  • Occasional extended hours may be required to complete patient visits

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive women’s health care to women, infants, and families within a population at high risk for maternal and perinatal complications.

  • Collaborate closely with other healthcare providers and manage care in medically complex and emergency situations, including the emergency department.

  • Deliver primary women’s healthcare services, including the diagnosis and treatment of STD/HIV infections, in accordance with established clinical practice guidelines.

  • Provide family planning services, including hormonal, intrauterine, implantable, injectable, and barrier methods. Conduct thorough clinical assessments, evaluate risks and benefits, and engage patients through education and shared decision-making.

  • Manage labor and delivery care, including patient evaluation and hospital admission, ongoing assessment of maternal and fetal status, monitoring labor progress, determining the need for interventions, and providing patient and family education, support, and emergency services as needed.

  • Assist with specimen collection, laboratory procedures, discharge planning, and follow-up care

  • Utilize CPT and ICD coding for documentation and billing

  • Ensure adherence to hospital policies, NCQA standards, and quality care protocols

Required Qualifications

  • Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) or Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP)

  • Board-certified

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a CNM or WHNP

  • Extensive experience working as a solo provider, including prior work in Indian Health Service (IHS) facilities and rural communities

  • Active, unrestricted state license and DEA registration (any U.S. state)

  • Current life support certifications, including NRP

  • Strong commitment to rural and underserved healthcare

  • Compassionate, mission-driven, and patient-centered care approach

  • Demonstrated sensitivity to cross-cultural and language differences

  • Interest in joining a dynamic, socially impactful healthcare organization

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Extensive experience in primary care and Women's Health, OB/GYN, labor & delivery, or acute care

  • Proficiency in suturing, IV insertion, venipuncture, specimen collection, and patient monitoring

  • Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems and medical documentation best practices

  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and compliance standards

  • Experience in hospital or inpatient settings (outpatient experience also valued)

  • Understanding of pain management, discharge planning, family planning methods, and NICU protocols (when applicable)

  • Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams

Compensation & Benefits

  • $80–$90 per hour
