NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem, located on 135th Street in Manhattan, is a designated Level 1 Trauma Center and is recognized for providing centers of excellence in the areas of Bariatric Surgery, Breast Imaging and Sexual Assault Forensics. Our teams provide services for nearly 213,000 outpatient visits, more than 83,000 emergency room visits and over 13,000 inpatient admissions annually. The hospital maintains an academic affiliation with Columbia University Medical Center.

Harlem Hospital Center has been certified as a Baby-Friendly hospital by the World Health organization. The OB/GYN service has a 24-hour pain management service with five birthing suites and a 17-bed inpatient unit. We have a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. In FY14, the OB/GYN service had over 1000 live births.

Responsibilities:

PURPOSE OF POSITION: As members of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women’s Health, a midwife provides antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, neonatal, interconceptional and gynecological care in accord with written midwifery protocols.

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Plans and provides health care for people/women across the life span, including newborn infants.
  • Establishes a complete database concerning the client through history taking, physical examination and ordering/interpreting appropriate laboratory data and diagnostic tests.
  • Assesses the status of the client, develops and implements a plan of care with the clients during the prenatal, intrapartal, postpartal, neonatal and interconceptional/gynecological periods.
  • Provides guidance, and education for clients and their families concerning health maintenance, admission and discharge, labor management including physical and emotional support.
  • Manages labor and birth including delivery of the newborn, utilizes medication and performs procedures.
  • Provides immediate and the follow-up care of the newborn infant, including circumcision and ongoing assessment and follow-up with the postpartum family.
  • Seeks medical consultation and/or referral for clients with medical, obstetrical or gynecologic co-morbidities.
  • Performs ongoing review of care, including evaluation and documentation in the medical record.
  • Performs expanded practice skills in OB/GYN according to competencies.
  • Works days, evenings, nights and weekends.

*** Minimum of three years as a practicing clinical midwife is required for this position.

Qualifications:

  1. Licensure as a Midwife by the New York State Education Department – Office of the Professions
  2. Certification by the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB)
  3. Minimum of three years as a practicing clinical midwife
  4. Proof of Covid-19 vaccination is required prior to hire

Compensation:


• Min USD: $120,000.00 Annually
• Max USD: $150,000.00 Annually
