General Overview
Under the general supervision of the Lead CRNA and Physician Supervisor (Anesthesia trained, MGB clinical staff) incumbent provides anesthesia services to patients. Reviews patients' medical history, assists in the selection of the type of anesthesia, administers an anesthetic and monitors patients during the procedure. The incumbent is responsible for supplying documentation of continued registration as a CRNA (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist).
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Reviews patients' medical history. In collaboration with supervisors determines appropriate type of anesthetic to be used.
- Prepares and evaluates the safety of anesthetic equipment, supplies and drugs.
- Conducts the induction and maintenance of anesthesia under the direction of appointed supervisor. Administer general (intravenous / inhalation) and regional anesthesia.
- Insert invasive monitoring lines required for an anesthetic and interpret the data.
- Monitors the life support functions of patient during period of anesthesia, or surgery as needed. Assesses, interprets and treats physiologic responses to anesthesia that include oxygenation, circulation and ventilation. Keeps supervisor informed of patient's condition.
- Records pertinent information concerning anesthetic course on patient’s clinical chart.
- Provides observation and care in the immediate post operative period until a report of pertinent information has been given to and responsibility for the patient accepted by the RN or MD covering the appropriate recovery area.
- Responsible for supplying documentation of continued registration as a CRNA.
