Southwest Medical Center is a 101-bed acute care facility which fosters an engaging work environment focused on providing excellent care to our patients. We are committed to caring for our diverse community by expanding care services & investing in the best technology to meet the needs of our patients and medical providers. Our central location allows us to provide services to the residents of 5 states including Kansas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico. Our population is about 23,000 people; however our service area reaches about 91,000 people. Located in Liberal, Kansas, Southwest Medical Center (SWMC) operates as a not-for-profit acute care hospital. One of our continuing goals is to provide "Quality Healthcare Close to Home." Provider Employment Highlights

We are a Joint Commission accredited regional medical center. We have a 9 bed ER, 16 bed Skilled Nursing Unit, 8 bed ICU, 33 Medical/Surgical beds, a 5 suite OR with C-Section Room, 13 same day Surgery beds, and 4 PACU beds. Our services include a full time Anesthesiologist and CRNAs, Hospitalist Team, OB/GYN services, Diagnostic Imaging Department, General Surgery team, Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgery, Orthopedic and Sports Medicine, Physical Therapy, Sleep Disorders Lab, Urology, and Wound Care Center with Hyperbaric Chamber. We are an Emergent Stroke Ready Hospital and partner with Wesley Care Telemedicine Network providing stroke and neurology services. Our up to date diagnostic imaging department includes a 64 slice GE Cat Scan, 1.5 Tesla Siemens MRI, Hologic Digital Mammography, 2 head Nuc Med scanner, all digital x-ray, and other portable equipment. We have several outreach clinics located in our facility which include 2 cancer centers, a cardiology clinic, and a pediatric cardiology clinic. Our services continue to expand as our community grows.

Liberal, Kansas is a friendly, diverse community. We are centrally located about 3 hours from Amarillo, TX, 5 hours from Red River, NM, 4 Hours from Oklahoma City, OK, and 6 Hours from Denver, CO. We have a local airport that connects to Denver, Colorado and another airport an hour north that travels to Dallas, TX.

Liberal Public Schools (Unified School District 480) operates twelve public schools in the city. Liberal High School is ranked 7th within Kansas. The Liberal sports teams compete in Class 5A. Our public school recently built 5 new school buildings that opened in 2017. Students have the opportunity to take Advanced Placement® course work and exams. There is one private school located in Liberal.

Seward County Community College/Area Technical School offers Associate degrees and Technical degrees.

Our community offers many avenues to recreation and entertainment. We have many local shops and restaurants. Liberal provides various opportunities for entertainment including the Bee Jays minor league baseball team, various parks, the movie theater, Adventure Bay pool and waterpark, miniature golf, bowling alley, multiple golf courses, Dorothy's House and Land of Oz, Baker Arts Center, Coronado Museum, and more!

Located in Liberal, Kansas, Southwest Medical Center (SWMC) operates as a not-for-profit acute care hospital. The first patient received medical service on August 17th, 1964. Prior to this date, citizens in the area relied on Epworth Hospital for medical care.

Southwest Medical Center is a business entity governed by a Board of Trustees appointed by the Board of County Commissioners of Seward County, Kansas, and an administration selected by the Board of Trustees. No taxes are levied by the Board of County Commissioners of Seward County, Kansas, for operating, maintaining, equipping and improving the hospital.

Through the years SWMC has become a regional medical center serving patients from a five-state region of Kansas, Colorado, Oklahoma, Texas, and New Mexico. As the hospital evolves in a changing industry one of our continuing goals is to provide “Quality Healthcare Close to Home.” This means recruiting and retaining highly skilled physicians, investing in state-of-the-art medical technology and providing compassionate patient service.
