Why NMS ?

Greetings. My name is David Hamm and I am the Manager of Physician Search at National Medical Services.

When I sat down to write this marketing piece I was perplexed. I did not know how to convey ‘ Why NMS ‘ without getting into my story. It was then I realized that this ‘marketing piece’ would have to be personal and atypical for a marketing piece but the serendipity was…that would be o.k. because our approach will TRULY be atypical. T

This is my story.

I have been in recruiting for over eight years and prior to that in consultative sales. I have worked for two of the ‘top five’ national companies in physician recruiting. Additionally, I have done ‘internal recruiting’ for a nationally recognized industry provider of contract management services in general acute care hospitals. Lastly, my experience also includes work in Locum Tenens staffing and on Mid-Level searches.

Having worked for industry leaders was a good thing. It gave me experience in utilizing industry resources and national exposure to the medical industry as a whole; I have recruited for nearly ALL specialties in nearly every region of the United States. This varied knowledge and background has allowed me to direct clients and candidates to an understanding of what is required to make a search competitive while working WITH my clients and candidates during the process.

My skills and experience have developed to the point that I have not only become a consultative expert on recruiting, but a consultative expert on ‘the business of medicine.’ To recruit successfully, one must be an expert at BOTH !

After eight years of recruiting, I realized that my recruiting style was my greatest strength but it was also my greatest weakness. At the risk of sounding clichéd, a consultative approach with the understanding of, and the emphasis on, the importance of building strong client and candidate relationships is often spoke of in ‘sales’ but rarely accomplished.

Although lots of service line representatives desire to work in such a way, we all know that goals and numbers are the essence of ‘the game.’ I am a relational idea man who derives satisfaction from identifying problems, providing solutions, and completing the task (no matter how long it takes). The firms that I worked for in the past carried extremely high overhead which required high levels of production to keep revenue flowing. It was/is truly quantity over quality. The catch 22 for myself is that I had a success rate that was high on the quality side (1:1 interview to placement ratio), incredible customer service scores from both clients and candidates, and 90% client retention rates but this required a lower volume of searches, hence a lower volume of ‘production.’ After fighting this up hill battle for years, I had decided to quit recruiting and change industries.

Then, I met Jim Beyer. When I realized Jim owned a recruiting firm my first words to him were… “No thanks.’ However, Jim’s first word to me was… ‘Why ?’ It was at that moment I knew Jim and his firm were something special. That conversation led to countless other conversations where I explained to Jim why I had a ‘shelf-life’ on recruiting…I did not think I could service the client at the level I desired and also maintain a high production quota. And I was so pleased to realize that Jim AGREED !

Jim has successfully placed mid-levels with a loyal client base for over twenty years… fifteen of which have been through his own firm: National Medical Services. Being a smaller firm gives us an advantage over other larger firms; lower overhead means that lower volume can and does work. Now, having started the Physician Search Department at National Medical Services has given me the ability to do what I do best…. service clients and candidates with a consultative approach with the understanding of, and the emphasis on, the importance of building strong client and candidate relationships. Offer fresh ideas and customized problem solving (skills) for each client and physician along with sophistication and a personal commitment to bring (not just any, but) the right candidate for each and every search.. To provide relational, tactful and refined representation to clients during the Physician Recruitment Process.

May I say that caring, service and yes... a personal relational approach...is:

Why NMS ?

Because we are:
Restoring Honor and Integrity to Physician Recruiting with Values, Communication and Accountability (one search at a time).

Because:
We are NOT a Physician Recruiting Company.
We ARE a Physician Recruiting Service.
