The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center (OSUWMC) along with the Division of Trauma Critical Care and Burn Surgery within the Department of Surgery is looking to hire an experienced trauma and critical care surgeon with a focus on surgical critical care and experience in quality improvement. The position will be at the late Assistant, Associate, or Professor level and the candidate must have completed a fellowship in surgical critical care. This position is full-time and will be based at Ohio State University-Main Hospital. The position offers the potential for growth and offers a competitive salary and benefits package.

Qualifications

  • Board Eligible or Certified in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care
  • Successful completion of a Surgical Critical Care Fellowship
  • Eligible for State of Ohio medical licensure
  • Qualify for an academic appointment at the Assistant, Associate, or Professor level – Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with previous training and experience

The Division of Trauma, Critical Care and Burn

The Division of Trauma, Critical Care and Burn is led by Division Director Dr. Carrie Sims, MD. The Division concentrates efforts in clinical care, research, and education related to patients with acute surgical problems. The division delivers high-quality care to patients suffering from surgical critical illness, trauma, emergency general surgery diseases, and burns. The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center on the main campus is an established Level I Trauma Center seeing approximately 2,700 trauma patients annually. OSU East Hospital opened its trauma center in September 2018 and has experienced an ongoing growth of patient volume. We have an accredited surgical critical care fellowship that matches four fellows each year. We also have an acute care surgery fellowship. The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center Burn Program is Directed by Dr. Nicole Bernal and is 1 of only 2 American Burn Association (ABA) verified adult Burn Centers in Ohio.

The Medical Center has over 1,300 patient beds, performs over 44,000 surgeries per year, and has over 1.7 million annual outpatient visits. Established in 1914, the Ohio State Department of Surgery has a long and respected tradition of excellence in clinical care, research and education. The overall Department of Surgery is composed of nine surgical specialty divisions and seven centers. Collectively, the Department of Surgery performs over 21,000 cases annually and was ranked in the top10 according to the Blue Ridge rankings for NIH funding among surgery departments nationally.
