Amazing health system in Central Illinois is excited to add a Thoracic Surgeon

The thoracic surgeon would focus on oncological surgical management of patients with lung and esophagus cancers, thymus tumors, general thoracic surgery, navigational and interventional bronchoscopy (bronchial stent), with some benign foregut surgery cases. Training and interest in Minimally Invasive Thoracic Surgery are preferred.

Thoracic surgeon would enjoy a very generous compensation package in a stable, vertically integrated Health System, while practicing in a multi-disciplinary setting with weekly Lung Cancer Tumor Board, weekly Upper GI Tumor Board, outpatient clinic at Carle Heart and Vascular Institute and Cancer Institute, and a strong support from Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology and Pulmonary Medicine Services.
Their Cancer Institute has a strong clinical cancer research with a National Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP) Grant from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and currently > 100 open clinical trials for cancer patients in East Central Illinois.

Thoracic surgeon would be able to work with Cardiothoracic Surgeons and a Surgical Oncologist and would enjoy a great support for call coverage from Cardiothoracic Surgeons.

The ideal candidate would have some post-training experience, be board certified/board eligible in Thoracic Surgery and have excellent interpersonal skills for program building. The system is one of the very few health systems in the nation to offer its own health insurance product – Health Alliance Medical Plans (HAMP). Academic appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.


The position can include a dedicated time for teaching General Surgery Residents at their General Surgery Residency Program. For candidates with a strong academic background, a research component will be considered.
