New opportunities for Trauma Surgeons and Acute Care Surgeons in Florida.

Trauma Program:

  • 290-bed facility, expansion plan to add 102 more beds in process
  • Academic Level II Trauma Facility with affiliation with USF/Morsani College of Medicine
  • 12 hr primary in-house coverage, plus 12 hr secondary call from home with 30 min response (rarely called in)
  • ED Volume: 46k; 33 beds
  • Average Trauma Admits 2,500/ yr (Penetrating: 8%, Blunt: 91%)
  • Average Trauma Team Activations/ yr: 850
  • Medical Teaching Facility –General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Podiatry, Ophthalmology, Emergency Medicine, Geriatrics, Endocrine, Rheumatology, and Gastrointestinal Residencies along with Cardiology Fellowship, Pulmonary/Critical Care Fellowships
  • 60 ICU beds
  • 12 OR’s (including a cysto room & 1 designated for trauma)
  • Emergency General Surgery (15-18 days/month)
  • Adding an additional tower with 3 floors (ER, Rehab, etc)
  • Supportive administration team

Associate Trauma Director and Trauma Surgeon Criteria:

  • Board Certified Surgery with Trauma/Surgical Critical Care Fellowship Required
  • Ability to gain academic appointment with USF
  • ATLS Required
  • 28 Trauma Cases within the last year (FL Rule 64J)
