"New Program" Seeking General/Breast Surgery Physician (Texas)

TTUHSC El Paso and Tenet Healthcare are seeking a fellowship trained Breast Surgical Oncologist/ General Surgery physician. The ideal candidate will provide outpatient and inpatient services at a “New” 106 bed teaching hospital; designed to educate medical students, nursing students, and future resident physicians.

He or she will play a key role in developing a 6500 square foot, state of the art suite dedicated as a comprehensive breast center; which includes (3) mammography units, (2) ultrasound rooms, a procedure room, and on site radiology.

The successful candidate in this position will be employed by TTUHSC El Paso at an academic rank commensurate with qualifications; and participate in committees, research and/or scholarly activities under the direct supervision of the Founding Chair, Department of Surgery Dr. Alan Tyroch.

The position requires a M.D./D.O. degree; licensed in Texas, or eligible for licensure in the State of Texas, completion of an ACGME approved General Surgery residency program and fellowship training in Breast Surgery accredited by the Society of Surgical Oncology, and board certification or eligibility in general surgery.

Position Description
Contributes to the university’s mission through teaching, research and service, some variation by academic unit.

Major/Essential Functions

  • Provides consultations and clinical services in outpatient and inpatient settings
  • Maintains all applicable licenses, controlled substance registration, board certifications, hospital privileges, and third party payer enrollments in good standing
  • Supervises residents and participates in teaching activities for medical students and/or residents
  • Participates in research and/or scholarly activities in the department
  • Participates in committees and other administrative duties as assigned
  • Ensures compliance with HIPAA and billing regulations
  • Adheres to institutional and departmental policies and procedures
  • Demonstrates professionalism in accordance with the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine's Declaration of Faculty Professional Responsibility

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience and demonstrated interest in teaching students and residents
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Demonstrated leadership and administrative skills and experience for consideration of Departmental leadership appointment

Pay Statement
Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as, the institutional pay plan.

Required Qualifications
Academic degree as defined by the academic unit and as appropriate for the position held. Demonstrated record of effectiveness as a teacher, a record of peer reviewed publication and/or peer-reviewed creative activity which has contributed to the discipline or field of study, to the candidate’s intellectual and artistic development, and to the quality of the academic enterprise; a record of professional service appropriate to the discipline; promise of growth in teaching and research or artistic and creative activity.

  • M.D./D.O.
  • Licensed in Texas or eligible for medical Licensure in the State of Texas
  • Board eligible for certification in Surgery by the American Board of Surgery
  • Successful completion of fellowship training in Breast Surgery
  • Qualified for faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher
  • Must meet the practitioner recruitment requirements set forth by the Anti-Kickback Statute and Stark Law
