Responsibilities:

The Director of the GPR Program is responsible for the administration and direction of the JMC/NCB hospital-based general dentistry residency program. Responsibilities include the advanced training of residents in all facets of general dentistry, administration of the program including the selection and evaluation of residents, meeting reporting requirements Jacobi Medical Center, Commission on Dental Accreditation, and other entities. The Director reports directly to the Chair of the Department of Dentistry/OMFS and works closely with the other administrators and directors of the other programs in the department.. The Director also provides direct patient care in both outpatient and inpatient settings as well as serving in a supervisory capacity. Specific duties include:

  • Directs and administers the General Practice Residency Program, including: recruitment and selection of residents in compliance with Post Graduate Application Support Service (PASS) and Match Program requirements; development, implementation and evaluation of the curriculum plan; ongoing evaluation of the program, faculty and resident performance; coordination of teaching in affiliated institutions and off-service rotations and maintenance of program records.
  • Monitors educational program to ensure compliance with accreditation requirements.
  • Prepares information and reports of program information for potential applicants, the Commission on Dental Accreditation, website, or other information sources.
  • Assures that schedules are created for resident classes/ seminars, rotations, call, off-service rotations, and consultations in the hospital.
  • Determines the scope of dental services to be provided in the outpatient setting. Develops, implements and documents policies and procedures for the general practice division Ensures compliance with all hospital requirements including safety and disaster plans. * Initiates corrective action as needed.  
  • Interviews, directs, evaluates and schedules professional staff. Determines performance objectives of assigned staff. Determines competency requirements of professional staff. Coaches, counsels and disciplines assigned staff. Provides overall supervision of professional staff.
  • Provides service in the outpatient and hospital setting in a manner that is appropriate for the patient's age and clinical condition; demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to meet the patient's physical, psychosocial, educational and safety needs.

Qualifications:

  • DDS or DMD from a dental school accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA)
  • Certificate from a CODA - accredited General Practice Residency or Advanced Education in General Dentistry Program
  • Minimum of 10 years of clinical and educational experience beyond dental school
  • Experience in providing dental treatment to patients in the operating room
  • Ability to be licensed in the state of NY
  • Proficient in Dentrix software
