The Cardiothoracic Imaging Section of the Department of Radiology at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) seeks a dynamic and visionary Section Chief of Cardiothoracic Imaging. The successful candidate will be a fellowship-trained ABR-certified radiologist highly experienced in Cardiothoracic Imaging. Reporting directly to the MCW Department Chair of Radiology, this leadership position will be a core part of the growing commitment to clinical excellence, teaching, scholarship, and translational research within the Department of Radiology at MCW.

The Cardiothoracic Imaging Section has a strong regional and growing national reputation and is currently composed of five fellowship-trained faculty radiologists who perform dedicated cardiothoracic imaging services across our nationally-recognized health system. In addition, the Section reads cardiac CT and MR, chest CT, chest X-ray, and performs CT-guided biopsies and procedures. Most faculty cross-read or have secondary sections.

Position Summary:

The Cardiothoracic Imaging Section Chief is responsible for the clinical leadership, organization, operation, and the general clinical administration of the MCW Department of Radiology and Cardiothoracic Imaging Section. The Section Chief will provide oversight for service delivery, research, and educational objectives. The Section Chief will supervise a Section of five subspecialty faculty.

The Section Chief will have a strong academic background with research focus in cardiac CT, MR, lung diseases, as well as experience collaborating with industry vendors, most notably GE and Siemens, is preferred. Additionally, s/he will have a demonstrated local and national reputation of excellence in scholarship, teaching/mentoring, and clinical care, and will be widely published and nationally recognized in the field.

The Candidate:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Department's broader needs through committee participation and leadership.

  • Provide administrative support, leadership, and oversight to the members of the Section.

  • Assure the provision of timely, high quality clinical care.

  • Ensure adequate coverage of the Section including call coverage.

  • Oversee faculty peer review.

  • Participate in the education and recruitment of medical students, residents, and fellows.

  • Participate in clinical research and facilitate research performed by the other Section faulty, while maintaining compliance with all applicable regulatory and oversight bodies.

Education/Certifications/Licensure

  • M.D., D.O. degree, or equivalent medical doctorate.

  • Board Certification in Radiology (ABR certified).

  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited Fellowship training and/or extensive experience in Thoraco-abdominal Imaging (including potentially focused training in Cardiothoracic Imaging only or Abdominal Imaging only).

  • Unrestricted State of Wisconsin Medical License (current or eligible by time of hire).

  • Academic credentials ideally qualified to be appointed to the rank of Associate Professor or Professor of Radiology.

The MCW Department of Radiology supports a one-year fellowship in Cardiothoracic Imaging that is jointly administered with Froedtert Hospital. Fellows spend time both at the main campus and at outside imaging centers. Fellows participate actively in the clinical and research components of the practice. There is extensive departmental and institutional support to achieve the clinical, teaching, and research missions of the Section.
