The Breast Imaging and Intervention Section of the Department of Radiology (UW Radiology) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) is seeking a full-time radiologist, interested in pursuing an academic career in Breast Imaging at the rank of Clinical Assistant, Clinical Associate or full Clinical Professor. The successful candidate must be board certified or board eligible in diagnostic radiology. Fellowship training in Breast Imaging including mammography, ultrasound, and MR of the breast and breast biopsies is required. Reporting to the UW Section Chief, this faculty position will be a core part of the growing commitment to clinical excellence, teaching, scholarship, and translational research within UW Radiology.

With a mission to advance human health through innovation in imaging, the Department of Radiology has a stable force of 102 faculty in 11 subspecialty divisions and many of our faculty are world-renowned for their contributions to research and education in radiology. Our faculty interpret more than 700,000 exams annually from our academic hospital and multiple community-based hospitals and clinics.

Our research faculty collaborate closely with scientists on the UW campus and in the Department of Medical Physics in a 60,000 sq. ft. imaging sciences research center, part of the Wisconsin Institutes for Medical Research (WIMR). The imaging research center provides an unprecedented resource that translates innovation from bench to bedside and spans a scope from mouse to man.

The center includes advanced MRI, CT, PET (including combined PET-MRI), cyclotron, radiochemistry, digital angiography, ultrasound, and magnetoencephalography systems for small animal, large animal, and human research applications. Our industrial partners have provided state-of-the-art imaging equipment and access to research platforms for our scientists to create new imaging methods and applications. The imaging research center provides state-of-the-art laboratory, office, teaching, and interactive space for more than 250 radiology and medical physics researchers.

The Position:

Reports to: This faculty position reports to the Section Chief of Breast Imaging and Intervention.

Position Summary:

The Breast Imaging Radiologist will provide primary diagnostic breast imaging services for the department. All faculty are responsible for teaching and overseeing diagnostic radiology residents, fellows, and medical students in both reading room and lecture settings. Most daily clinical assignments will involve direct resident supervision. All faculty contribute to resident didactic education and are encouraged to engage in clinical research or other scholarly activities. Salary and academic rank for this position will be commensurate with the applicant's experience and academic background.

The position will be: 85% clinical; 15% academic.

The Candidate:

Education/Certifications/Licensure

  • M.D. degree or equivalent.
  • Board certified or Board eligible in Diagnostic Radiology (ABR certified) by contract start date.
  • State of Wisconsin Medical License, or eligibility by contract start date.
  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited Fellowship training in Breast Imaging including Mammography, Ultrasound, and MR of the breast and breast biopsies is required.
  • Associate and Professor rank will require experience and credentials for appointment at rank as described in the School of Medicine and Public Health Clinical Teacher Track Appointment and Promotion Guidelines.
  • Eligible to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience

  • Previous academic radiology teaching experience.
  • Interest in scholarly activity.
