An opportunity is available for a Pulmonology Physician to provide consultative services and follow up of pulmonary patients in the inpatient and outpatient setting with the VA Medical Center in Des Moines, IA. On-call duty will be assigned as necessary, primarily for coverage of inpatients, and will be minimal. There is a very strong hospitalist and Medicine residency program. Sleep medicine opportunities are available if desired. Teaching opportunities are also available. Typical work hours are M-F 8am -4:30pm

Expectations of the provider include participation in discharge planning, possible clinical oversight of additional staff, timely documentation, and participation in special projects pertinent to pulmonology. Quality of care should meet professional standards at all times.

PHYSICIAN BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

    • United States Citizenship
    • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
    • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in any State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
    • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
    • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
