Marion Campus: The current, normal work schedule for the Marion campus is Monday through Friday from 7:45am to 4:30pm., with a 45-minute non-paid lunch break. Marion contract physicians will provide weekend psychiatric coverage on a scheduled/rotating basis with other VA psychiatrists on staff and will work 13 weekends per calendar year. Weekend contract physicians will provide Saturday and Sunday coverage from 7:45am to 4:30pm., with a 45-minute non-paid lunch break. Each Marion contract psychiatrist will work three (3) Federal holidays per calendar year, 7:45am to 4:30pm., with a 45-minute non-paid lunch break.
Ft. Wayne Campus: The current, normal work schedule for the Ft. Wayne campus is Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pm., with a 30-minute non-paid lunch break. Ft. Wayne contract physicians will provide on-call weekend, after hours and federal holiday psychiatric coverage on a scheduled/rotating basis with other VA psychiatrists on staff. Each contract physician will provide rotating on-call coverage on a Wednesday – Tuesday schedule. Coverage may include consultations by the Marion campus MOD and/or contract physician(s). Coverage for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Monday and Tuesday will be from 4:30pm to 8:00am. Saturday on-call coverage will begin at 8:00am and end at 8:00am on Monday. Each Ft. Wayne contract physician will work four (4) Federal holidays per calendar year, 8:00am to 4:30pm., with a 30-minute non-paid lunch break.
St. Joseph County VA Clinic: The current, work schedule for the St. Joseph County VA Clinic is Monday through Friday from 12:30pm to 4:30pm. The St. Joseph County VA Clinic will not work Federal holidays or weekends and will not provide on-call coverage.
Scope of Care: Contract physician(s) (as appropriate and within scope of practice/privileging) shall be responsible for providing Psychiatry care and includes: Physical Assessment, Psychiatric Evaluations and Mental Status Exams, Psychotherapy, Pharmacotherapy, Consultation, Clinical Supervision, General Medical Condition Care, Group Psychotherapy, Behavior Therapy, Family Therapy, Treatment Team meetings, Discharge Planning, referring patients to specialty care, histories and physicals, order prescriptions, labs, x-rays, and other pertinent tests, completes documentation requirements in a timely manner as per policy, completion of consults from locations at the facility, and evaluates outpatients for medication as needed. Contracted psychiatrists shall have an active and valid DEA license and shall have the ability to prescribe Buprenorphine and Clozapine.
Provide inpatient/outpatient, Urgent Care, psychiatric services to new (to the VA system) and established patients. In general, the inpatient care includes acute, rehabilitative and long-term treatment as well as comprehensive psychiatric services to eligible Veterans and outpatient care diagnosis mental disorders, medication evaluation and management, conducts psychiatric assessments, treats mental disorders through a variety of modalities and provides adjunctive intervention for treatment of medical disorders.
See approximately 10-13 scheduled established outpatients per day and all unscheduled patients that walk-in if they are assigned to the cohort of patients the contract physician is covering. A lighter schedule is permitted for the first week. After that, the contract physician shall be expected to get up to speed and keep pace within an 8-hour workday. New patient appointments are 60-minutes and established patients are 30-minutes. Contract physician shall have the patients identify themselves by stating their name and social security number prior to initiating treatment.
See approximately 20-25 patients per day for inpatient. A lighter schedule is permitted for the first week. After that the contract physician shall be expected to get up to speed and keep pace within an 8-hour workday.
