We have an exceptional opportunity for a Psychiatrist to join VA Illiana Health Care System located in Danville, IL.

Qualifications of the VA Physician

Only one active, unrestricted state license is required to work in any VA facility.

United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.

Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.

Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Responsibilities

The incumbent's duties include, but are not limited to:

The majority of time will involve case consultations for inpatients, in collaboration with medical and subspecialty care teams, in the VA hospital, and will also involve consultations to the outpatient primary care and subspecialty consults, e-consults from providers, and working with multiple social workers and primary care psychologist peers.


Major duties include:


1. Application of accepted protocols for assessment of the individuals presenting with psychiatric symptoms including but not limited to, altered mental status, substance withdrawal, and the varied psychiatric diagnosis in DSM-5.
2. Assessment may include gathering verbal and documented history, mental status examination and medical and laboratory evaluation.
3. Diagnostic description or formulation to guide appropriate acute and secondary treatment interventions.
4. Provision of psychiatric care according to his/her privileges.
