On Call Psychiatrist

Seeking a licensed psychiatrist for on call service, with hours of Monday through Thursday 5 PM until 9 AM the next morning, and Friday 5 PM through Monday morning 9 AM. This position is for our child residential programs at Hawthorne, NY and the Riverdale area of the Bronx, NY. Candidates must reside within a 30-minute drive of the programs’ locations. Candidates will be responsible for face-to- face evaluations of child and adolescent clients after they have been placed in an emergency safety intervention (ESI), also known as a therapeutic restraint, using a structured format. Physicians from all disciplines are encouraged to apply.
KEY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Required availability during on call schedule: Monday through Thursday 5 PM to 9 AM the next morning, and Friday starting at 5 PM and continuing until Monday morning 9 AM. On call physicians are required to work during holidays if they occur during the on-call period. If holidays occur during the week, the on-call physician will be on call all 24 hours on weekday holidays.
• Physician will be summoned if there has been an ESI of a child or adolescent.
• Candidate will be responsible for coming to the program to evaluate the immediate physical and emotional well-being of client after the ESI has been initiated, to provide relevant feedback to staff, and to fill out state-required paperwork regarding the ESI. This process usually takes just under 1 hour.
• Physician must reside within a 30-minute drive, including during rush hour, of the programs’ locations; this is required by statewide regulations (see Medicare/Medicaid guideline 483.358) and is non-negotiable.
• Each on call period lasts one week.
• Candidates could work as little as once a month or potentially multiple times a month depending on preference.
EDUCATIONAL / TRAINING REQUIRED:
• A Medical degree with a license to practice in the State of New York including up to date status
• A current DEA registration for the prescribing of controlled substances.
• Preference given to physicians with specialties in psychiatry, family medicine and pediatrics; but other specialties will also be considered.
• Physicians will need to be trained and certified in therapeutic crisis intervention (TCI) and CPR. TCI training is initially 3 days; a refresher occurs every 6 months. Physicians will be compensated for time spent in TCI training. CPR certification must also be up to date.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED/LANGUAGE PREFERENCE:
Physicians from all disciplines are encouraged to apply. Physicians with experience in psychiatry or pediatrics may be given preference.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Ability to utilize computer programs like Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc. Physicians are required to email notes from on call encounters within 24 hours to appropriate employees
