NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County, located in the heart of Brooklyn, accommodates more than 518,076 outpatient visits, more than 141,328 emergency room visits, and with 627 beds, more than 25,000 inpatient admissions annually. The hospital maintains a strong academic affiliation with SUNY Downstate Medical Center in order to maintain its high standards of healthcare delivery.

Responsibilities:

1. Provide direct psychiatric evaluation, assessment, reassessment, patient centered treatment planning and discharge

planning.

2. Ensure completion of appropriate mental hygiene legal papers.

3. Establish and oversee interdisciplinary treatment teams.

4. Collaborate in the running of community meetings, family meetings and maintenance of a therapeutic milieu.

5. Prepare transfer materials for state hospital.

6. Provide appropriate documentation in the clinical chart,

7. Monitor incidents on the unit and participate in performance improvement activities.

8. Aid in preparation for regulatory agency surveys. Ensure compliance with standards of regulatory agencies and

always be survey ready.

9. Responsible to assure adequate and provide coverage which includes: Providing continuous patient care and

documentation when other staff psychiatrists are not otherwise available.

10. Demonstrate awareness of hospital wide safety plan.

1 1. Participate in continuing medical education and,or staff development activities with an intent of developing further

inpatient clinical skills.

12. Teaching and supervision of trainees.

13. Teaching at SUNY Medical School and residents as requested.

14. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • An active license to practice medicine in the State of New York
  • Completion of an approved psychiatric residence
  • Addiction experience or Addiction Fellowship preferred
  • Prior inpatient service experience preferred
  • Board Eligibility or Board Certification in Psychiatry
