Medical Doctor Associates (MDA) is seeking Outpatient/Inpatient Pediatric Physician coverage in Shiprock NM to support the Indian Health Services Northern Navajo Medical Center. The position will begin as soon as credentialing is completed (3-4 weeks) and exist January 2018 thru December 2018. When partnering with the Indian Health Services, any state medical license can suffice. Active DEA, CPR, BLS, PALS, NRP, ACLS & ATLS.

Details on position:

  • The Provider shall treat approximately 2-3 patients per day depending on acuity as well as perform outpatient and inpatient consults, Pediatric Physician duties and manage patient’s needs as described in the (PD), identified by the Service Unit and as directed by Supervisor.
  • The Provider shall perform in accordance with the competency standards listed in the Shiprock Service Unit (SRSU) Medical Staff By-Laws.
  • The Provider shall provide professional medical services or direct patient care services as follows as schedule permits.
  • The Provider shall provide service in the pediatric department in the delivery of patient care. Service shall be inspected, reviewed and monitored by the Primary Care Director or her designee.
  • Inpatient includes Pediatric Ward, Labor, Level 2 Nursery & Delivery/Post-partum ward.
  • Outpatient clinic incumbent shall evaluate and treat all patients placed in his/her exam room by staff. All patient who sign in by 4 pm shall be evaluated and treated before clinic is considered completed and incumbent leaves for the day.
  • Inpatient wards incumbent shall at least daily evaluate, treat and document in medical record each inpatient on the pediatric service, including well newborns. Shall admit and discharge these inpatients as medically appropriate. Shall assist and provide consultation as requested to other specialists, the emergency room, the pediatric clinic, the labor and delivery suite, the urgent care clinic, and the impatient pediatric and nursery nursing staff.
  • Shall assume responsibility for the diagnosis, care and treatment of pediatric inpatients, ambulatory care patients and emergency cases in the capacity of a senior specialist or expert. Typical, but not all inclusive assignment including the following 1. Shall interview and examine pediatric patients, reviews past medical history and requests and/or performs diagnostic tests and examinations deemed necessary to obtain all possible information related to each case.

Many of the patients serviced may only speak a native language and reside on the reservation. The provider should be able to show sensitivity to cross-cultural and languages differences and have the ability to work through interpreters as necessary for non-English speaking patients. In situations, where interpretation is required, the Northern Navajo Medical Centers staff will provide assistance.
