Job Description

Last Update: 4/12/21
"

The assignment is 24-hour call and varies depending on what comes in. The ED can manage a lot of Pediatric visits and Maternity is really based on if anyone goes into labor. It’s more of a PDH need than just PED.

Must be a Pediatrician – client will not accept FP or IM with Peds experience.

Coverage Dates: Thursday, September 12 (8am) – Friday, September 20 (8am)

PEDIATRICS - On-Call Only

  • Average # of patients per day: Varies. May be called by ED or Maternity.
  • Expected hourly # of patients: Varies
  • What is the makeup and general experience of the staff? Would be only Pediatrician on-call. Would work with ED Physicians, OB, Midwives, and Nursing Staff
  • Med Assts vs. LPN’s: N/A
  • Are there Nurse Practitioners and if so, does the locum Physician supervise them? No
  • Is there access to other physicians for consulting? Yes, UVM Medical Center has Provider Access Number and access to numerous Pediatric Specialists at Vermont Children’s Hospital.
  • Weekday/Weekend hours: 24 hour on-call
  • Call schedule? 24 Hour On-call Only. Only required to come to the hospital when called in.
    • If call, average # of calls anticipated per night? Varies. Maternity Department only has 250 Births per year. Also, AHMC does not have a NICU so our OB Service would transfer all high risk/pre-term deliveries, if possible. In cases that high risk/pre term delivery does occur, UVM will send NICU ambulance team as soon as they are notified that delivery is pending and transfer is unsafe to make. UVM/Vermont Children’s Hospital is 2-hour drive, but only 70 miles by helicopter as Lake Champlain separates Vermont & NY, so ambulance needs to drive around the lake.
    • What is the call rotation? 24 hour on-call
    • How often? Through assignment
    • How many nights in a row? Through assignment
  • EMR: Meditech

On-call Pediatrician is required to respond to requests to come to the hospital. Only a handful of Pediatric Patients are admitted to Med/Surg Service as we have no Pediatric Specialists.
