The Cardiac Center at Nemours Children’s Hospital is seeking a Director of Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care to lead and support their growing Cardiac Intensive Care Unit in Orlando. Physicians seeking a unique opportunity to help lead a uniquely-integrated cardiac center supported by nationally-known experts in Central Florida are encouraged to apply. This is an opportunity to join a team of clinicians dedicated to advancing the care of the pediatric cardiac patient supported by a hospital system dedicated to the integrated care of this population. The new Director will manage pediatric cardiac patients with a wide spectrum of medical problems.

The self-contained Cardiac Center located in the Nemours’ state-of-the-art 100-bed facility includes one dedicated cardiac operating room, an adjacent cardiac catheterization laboratory, and a 10-bed Cardiac Intensive Care Unit with 24-hour critical care coverage. In November 2019, the ICU will open a new Cardiac wing with 20 beds, a new OR, hybrid cath lab, and cardiac specific perioperative area, all on one floor.

The Nemours Cardiac Center opened in 2015 and has expanded to include 15 board-certified pediatric cardiologists, including cardiac intensivists, interventional cardiologists, cardiac anesthesiologists, advanced practice providers, and dedicated nursing staff. The Nemours’ cardiac team has become a leader in minimizing the number of heart surgeries and procedures patients need in their lifetime.

Qualifications/Education/Certifications/Licensure

  • The ideal candidate should be board certified/eligible in either Pediatric Cardiology or Pediatric Critical Care and with either significant experience or advanced training in Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care.

  • Candidates with additional clinical, academic, and administrative interests are welcome, with the opportunity for combined clinical roles within the Center which can be tailored to individual career goals and interests.

Professional Qualifications/Experience

  • Experience in managing diverse relationships and integration activities with medical staff. A strong reputation for sustained, inclusive, trust-based physician relations.

  • Preferred experience leading a Cardiac Critical Care group or division.

  • Demonstration of strong interest, commitment and experience in managing pediatric cardiac patients with a wide spectrum of medical problems.

  • Interest in developing and implementing care models and outcomes that are evidence based to ensure delivery of high quality, cost effective healthcare using quality measures and performance improvement.

  • Interest in scholarly activity as evidenced by scholarly publications, participation in national or regional professional societies etc.
