Docstar is looking for a Pediatric Critical Care Physician for an opening in Massachusetts. We can acquire a license, if not licensed. 9 shifts a month starting in June, 2023.

They are looking for nighttime and weekend coverage of our PICU unit. The PICU is a 7 bed unit, with an 8th bed for potential overflow, although the average census is 5.6/day. The locum will not be asked to do sedation.

Their shift will start at 5pm. They will come in and round on all patients till about 9pm. From there they will be on call until 7am. They will also act as the primary on call for all new admissions. Callback rate is roughly 15-20% of the time.

  • Weekend hours are 48 hours. They start at 7am Saturday and run through 7am Monday. This will count as a total of 4 shifts provided (day, night, day-night)
  • Need 16-18 shifts/month covered. Looking for a minimum of shifts of 6/month.

Reason for need or vacancy: Current team of 4 Moonlighters not picking up enough shifts.

EMR system: Cerner

Credentialing time frames: 90 Days, 120 if non licensed.

Covid-19 vaccination requirements: (If applicable) Required (bylaw)

Will you accept a Physician, NP, or PA: Physician only, they are the solo provider.

Average # of patients per day: Average Census is 5.6, they will be responsible for rounding on all patients.

Most Common Cases: Bread and butter PICU, trauma is the most common for surgical. No ECMO, No Transplant, No Cardiac Surg

Procedures: Central Lines, Chest Tubes, Intubations

Inpatient or outpatient setting or mix: Inpatient Only

Age Range: Birth-22

Call requirements: Nighttime/weekend Call

Support staff onsite: A resident in house, plus experienced nursing/respiratory staff

Board Certification requirements/preferences: Must be BE/BC

Any additional certifications Required: PALS Certified
