Candidates must have a medical degree, completed an Anatomic and Clinical Pathology residency, a fellowship in Genitourinary. Candidates must be eligible for New York State medical licensure.

The Pathology and Laboratory Medicine department currently has two board certified (BC) cytopathologists, two BC hematopathologists, one BC gastrointestinal/liver fellowship-trained pathologist, one BC pathologist with fellowship in breast and ob/gyn pathology, one BC neuropathologist, one BC dermatopathologist, one BC general pathologist, 1 BC forensic pathologist, one BC pathologist with interest in autopsy pathology, and two level 1 pathologist assistants.

Almost all autopsy cases are handled by the specialists and there is system of coverage of the specialty work by the pathologists when a specialist is on vacation. Almost all gross examinations are performed by the pathologist assistants. The department has a comprehensive and aggressive QA program in AP and CP. The department has state-of-the-art immunohistochemistry laboratory, flow cytometry laboratory, automated histology laboratory, and automated clinical laboratories.
