Pathology Opportunity - Carbondale, IL (College Town, 2hrs from St Louis & 3 Hrs from Nashville)

CARBONDALE, ILLINOIS (USA).
Southern Illinois Healthcare (SIH) – A hospital employed, three-member pathology group, is seeking additional full-time (AP/CP) board certified surgical pathologists. J1/H-1B visa applicants are accepted and encouraged to apply. The SIH system comprises four main hospitals, a cancer center, surgical center, and multiple satellite clinics.

The caseload volume (12k surgical specimens, 3.5k cytology) includes predominately biopsies (prostate and GI), routine surgical specimens, benign and oncologic resection specimens (thyroid, breast, lung and gastrointestinal), non-gyn and FNA cytology specimens. Limited cases include neuropath, peds, Gyn cytology and gyn-onc cases. No bone marrow sign-out or autopsies performed. Frozen sections (on average, less than 10 per week), margin assessment and cytology ROSE performed at only one location. Frozen sections routinely cut by staff. One full-time grossing PA on staff, but the successful candidate must be willing to occasionally perform specimen grossing during vacation coverage.

CP call is every 3-4 weeks and includes routine chemistry, blood bank, microbiology and hematology issues that can be handled remotely.

Other pathologist duties include tumor board coverage (1-2 per week), proficiency testing and QA/QC.

Future opportunities for medical laboratory directorship are present, subject to availability.

Preference will be given to those with Surgical Pathology fellowship certification and any history of independent sign-out experience. Additional subspecialty training in hempath, breast, GI and cytology is helpful, but not required.

Base salary starts at $379,000+, with additional yearly productivity and quality bonuses. Student loan repayment is available, as well as a signing bonus and a relocation reimbursement. Vacation is 27 days including holidays, in addition to five days CME with a $2,000 stipend. Green card sponsorship is available, subject to USCIS visa rules and regulations.

Ability to obtain medical licensure in Illinois is required.

Thank you for your consideration. I look forward to being a resource to help you identify the right opportunity.
