The role of the Section Chief is to provide medical leadership, supervision and planning for the Section of Pain Management. The Section Chief will provide vision and direction to the Section of Pain Management with a focus on meeting Hospital, THMG and Community needs.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


Administration
  • Work in collaboration with the Chair and with other physician leaders.
  • Promote collegial relationships with medical staff, nursing and other hospital staff.
  • Guiding the delivery of services to assure highest standard of patient care.
  • Assist the Quality Improvement Department and THMG ambulatory clinical quality team to develop methods to document and benchmark the quality of care delivered in Pain Management.
  • Assist the Quality Improvement Department, THMG ambulatory clinical quality team, and/or other individuals or Departments within the organization to develop, implement and document ongoing quality improvement and utilization management programs emphasizing principles of evidence-based medicine. Assure that the quality and cost effectiveness of patient care is evaluated. The actionable information necessary to make these changes will be provided to the Section Chief of Pain Management from the Quality Improvement Department, THMG ambulatory clinical quality team, Compliance Department, and/or other individuals or groups within the organization tasked with such responsibility to collect and abstract this information.
  • Participate on Hospital and THMG committees as appropriate.
  • Be accountable for all professional and administrative activities within the Section of Pain Management.
  • Maintain continuing review of the professional performance of all practitioners with clinical privileges in the Section of Pain Management and report as necessary to the Chair, Department of Anesthesiology. The data and benchmarking parameters will be provided by the Quality Improvement Department, THMG ambulatory clinical quality team and others within the organization tasked with collecting and abstracting such information for the Section of Pain Management and individual providers.
  • In collaboration with Human Resources, Facilities, the Director of Physician Practices and THMG Administration ensures that the administrative and clinical onboarding of new providers at the practice site is completed within a reasonable timeframe (30 days from start date). New hire clinical onboarding will include a 30, 60 and 90-day evaluation with clear direction and definition of objectives that are rooted to the goals and values of Tower Health Medical Group.
  • Assign members of the Section of Pain Management to perform the duties of the Active Medical Staff in the inpatient and outpatient areas.
  • Be responsible for enforcement of the Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules and Regulation within the Section of Pain Management.
  • Strategic planning for Division on program development.
  • Medical staff development within the Section of Pain Management.

Fiscal
  • Assist Chair, Department of Anesthesiology and Administration in the development and control of Section budget.
  • Work with the Chair, Department of Anesthesiology, Medical Staff and Administration in the cost-effective utilization of resources.
  • Coordinating program development and facility planning and efficacy in program delivery within section.

Scholarly Activities
  • Oversee in coordination with the Residency Program Directors the Graduate Medical Education programs needing rotation in Pain Management.
  • Oversee in coordination with the CME Coordinator, Continuing Medical Education for members of the Medical Staff in the Section of Pain Management.
  • Participation in teaching of Residents.
  • Support the development of research within the Section of Pain Management.
  • Collaborate with Chair, Department of Anesthesiology to encourage, support and grow research endeavors with the Department.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of an ACGME or AOA accredited Residency training program in anesthesiology, psychiatry and neurology or physical medicine and rehabilitation
  • Completion of an ACGME accredited Fellowship training program in Pain Medicine/Management.
  • Board Certification Pain Management/Pain Medicine from the applicable ABMS board or AOA Board
  • 5 years' experience (preferred) as a board-certified pain management physician
  • PA License
