Seeking the Founding Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program Director at a 355 Bed Hospital Just 60 Mins to the Bay Area! Suburban City with 300k Population, Miles of Water Access and a Lower Cost of Living! Position Summary: The Program Director is responsible for the leadership, organization, operation, and the general administration of the Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program sponsored by our Medical Center. The Program Director is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the quality of didactic and clinical education for all sites that participate in the Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program. The Program Director will implement and enforce all Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) standards and requirements, establishing the strategic direction of the program, and the quality of training within the Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program. The Program Director is expected to integrate the Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program with physician practices and hospital clinical services in a manner that enhances value and quality, and that promotes an optimal environment for professional practice and medical education. Additionally, the Program Director works collaboratively with physician leaders, administration, and staff to improve clinical outcomes. The Program Director must dedicate up to 50 percent of his or her time (at least 20 hours per week or 1,040 hours per year) to program administration, evaluation, teaching, resident precepting, and scholarship. In addition, the Program Director is also required to spend additional time, not included in the 1,040 hours per year total, in direct patient care, without the presence of the residents. Salary and academic rank for this position will be commensurate with the applicant's experience and academic background. The Candidate: Key Responsibilities: • The Program Director must administer and maintain an educational environment conducive to educating the residents in each of the ACGME competency areas. • Approve the continued participation of program faculty based on evaluation. • Monitor resident supervision at all participating sites. • Prepare and submit all information required and requested by the ACGME. This includes but is not limited to the program application forms and annual program resident updates to the ADS; and ensure that the information submitted is accurate and complete. • Comply with the sponsoring institution's written policies and procedures, including those specified in the Institutional Requirements, for selection, evaluation and promotion of residents, disciplinary action, and supervision of residents. • Maintain clinical skills with protected time for direct patient care and CME. • Monitor and evaluate the program to maintain compliance and ensure that all educational and performance standards set forth by the Program Director are being met by staff, facilities, and residents. • Coordinate all schedules, including lectures and educational sessions, and allocate appropriate time for participation and involvement in all scholarly activities. • Assure that the requirements established by the ACGME and the Orthopedic Surgery Review Committee are met by the program. Provides verification of resident eligibility to enter American Board of Orthopedic Surgery Maintenance of Certification process. • Works with the Designated Institutional Official to meet program and institutional ACGME requirements.
