Ophthalmologist (Glaucoma) opening in Omaha, NE
Omaha/Council Bluff, NE

Full Time - Permanent position
Glaucoma Specialist

We are a 10-MD, 7-OD practice with five locations in Omaha and Council Bluffs. We are a physician-owned private practice. Among our 10 ophthalmologists, we have a large collection of fellowship trained doctors three in retina, two in cornea, one in glaucoma and one in neuro-ophthalmology. One fairly unique aspect of our practice is that we allow our specialists to determine their scope of practice, so nearly all of our doctors perform cataract surgery and engage in at least some degree of general ophthalmology. We are the largest eye care practice in Nebraska, and our footprint reaches approximately 100 miles in all directions. Our shareholders also own a surgery center where approximately 80% of all of our cases are performed.

Omaha (and its surrounding suburbs) is a great place to live. With a MSA population approaching one million people, Omaha offers many of the attractions found in major cities but without the traffic jams and high cost of living. Omahas cost of living is 12% below the national average, the local unemployment rate is 40% below the national average and the average commute time is 22% below the national average.

Ophthalmologist compensation appears to be highest in the Midwest region, and our shareholder ophthalmologists do quite well. Our intent is for all full-time ophthalmologists to become partners, and we typically have an 18-month waiting period before employed doctors are offered a shareholder position. A shareholder position is predicated on the employed doctor being board certified, reaching a break-even mark from a financial perspective, and contributing to the overall success of the practice. We currently have seven ophthalmologists and one optometrist as shareholders in our practice, as well as seven ophthalmologist owners in our surgery center. Incoming shareholders purchase their share of the practice assets at fair market value we do not assign a value to goodwill. Our ASC buy-in is slightly higher than the profit distributions that are made in one year.

While we have our share of doctors over age 55, we also have a great line-up of young doctors under 45 that will lead our practice for the next few decades. We are looking to add to that strong cadre of young doctors.
