Job Description

Last Update: 9/15/20

You are invited to partner with the nation’s best hospital (U.S. News & World Report 2018-2019), ranked #1 in more specialties than any other care provider. Practicing at Mayo Clinic provides a rewarding career that promotes excellence in patient-centered care. You can thrive in an environment that supports innovation and has a wealth of resources available to you – including an integrated EMR and collaboration with top specialists – to give your patients the quality of care you want to achieve.

Position description

The department of Radiation Oncology is seeking a Radiation Oncologist to join our practice. The Radiation Oncology Department at Mayo Clinic in Rochester maintains state-of-the-art facilities at all of its sites. The La Crosse Radiation Oncology center is an existing, purpose-built facility encompassing greater than 11,000 square feet including 4 clinic exam rooms, 1 linear accelerator vault and a CT simulator.

The department is currently being remodeled to nearly double the number of exam rooms as the ACR, CoC, and ASCO QOPI-accredited Cancer Center is undergoing a 3,900 square foot expansion and update of existing spaces.

Equipment in the clinic includes: a Varian TrueBeam treatment machine with 6 degree-of-freedom couch, EPID, OBI, and cone beam CT capabilities; a GE Lightspeed CT simulator with 4D capability and Advantage Sim; Eclipse treatment planning; ARIA informatics; full access to the integrated EPIC electronic medical record and all advanced modalities of diagnostic and nuclear medicine imaging either locally or through Mayo Clinic Rochester.

Four full-time on-site medical oncologists and two medical oncology advanced practitioners provide care in a coordinated and team-based approach with the radiation oncologist. Many surgical subspecialists are available locally. Local tumor boards and Mayo tumor boards are held weekly.

The physician will have a physician colleague already on-site and a full time physicist, radiation oncology nurse practitioner, nurse, and a dosimetrist, in addition to 5 radiation therapists and support staff of a nurse coordinator, social worker, dietician, and scheduling/rooming personnel. The Mayo Clinic is a fully accredited residency program with 12 medical residents. The Medical Physics Division has 20 faculty and 18 clinical medical physicists and supports a medical physics residency as well as doctoral degree students.

The Mayo Clinic is an NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center with unparalleled support for clinical and translational trials. Clinical research opportunities also are available through the Alliance for Clinical Trials and NRG cooperative groups at all regional sites.

We are interested in recruiting an experienced clinician who will join another full time clinician and will continue to build a dynamic radiation oncology practice while working in conjunction with physicians from the Mayo Clinic Health System and other community and regional providers. The position is for a full-time clinician.

License or certification

Candidates must be board-eligible or board-certified by the ABR in Radiation Oncology.
