Physician – Oncologist – VAMC Fargo, ND

Place of Performance: The contractor shall provide services on site at the FARGO VAHCS, 2101 Elm Street North, Fargo, ND, 57105.

  • License - Contract physician(s) assigned by the Contractor to perform the services covered by this contract shall have a current license to practice medicine in any State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia, and be registered with the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA). All licenses held by the personnel working on this contract shall be full and unrestricted licenses. Contract physician(s) who have current, full and unrestricted licenses in one or more states, but who have, or ever had, a license restricted, suspended, revoked, voluntarily revoked, voluntarily surrendered pending action or denied upon application will not be considered for the purposes of this contract. All licenses held by the personnel working on this contract shall be full and unrestricted licenses. Contract physician(s) who have current, full and unrestricted licenses in one or more states, but who have, or ever had, a license restricted, suspended, revoked, voluntarily revoked, voluntarily surrendered pending action or denied upon application will not be considered for the purposes of this contract.

Shift Expectations:

  • VA Business Hours: The Oncology/ Hematology Department is open Monday through Friday 8 am to 4:30 pm.

  • Patients must be seen by a contract physician (s) on-site at FARGO VAHCS in a timely manner in accordance with VA Rules and Regulations on clinic wait times and consult completion. Contractor shall notify the COR at least monthly about any obstacles to meeting this performance measure.
  • Contract Physicians shall be available and present in clinic during normal FARGO VAHCS clinic hours, FARGO VAHCS which will be established, and may be revised, as deemed appropriate for patient care by the Chief of Staff. Contract Physicians will be required to take call after hours daily (Monday-Friday) and Weekends on a Weekly Rotation. Currently, normal clinic hours for providers are 8 am to 4:30 pm excluding Federal Holidays.

Job Duties:

  • Contract provider (s) (as appropriate and within scope of practice/privileging) shall be responsible for providing Hematology/Oncology care, including, but not limited to :

  • Clinic and Surgical Care: Contractor provider shall provide clinical Hematology/Oncology services. Contractor provider shall be present on time for any scheduled clinics as documented by physical presence in the clinic at the scheduled start time. Approximate case load is as follows:

Total visits in Hematology/Oncology clinic: 2,337 patients seen by the providers (total visits in Infusion / Chemo Clinic : 2,434 Patients). An average of 4-10 veterans are seen per provider per day in Hematology/ Oncology Clinic depending on the time required to see the individual veteran.

  • Contractor provider shall provide comprehensive clinical Hematology/Oncology services.
  • Contract Health providers shall directly admit patients to the FARGO VAHCS if their condition warrants, or in conjunction with the FARGO VAHCS attending physician, admit patients for subsequent inpatient healthcare.
  • Contractor provider(s) shall provide consultative services at the patient’s bedside if the patient is not ambulatory and in the clinic setting if the patient is able to report to the outpatient clinic.

Procedures shall be scheduled for completion within 30 days of the date of the consult.

  • Should a VA beneficiary require services or care beyond the capabilities of the FARGO VAHCS, as determined by the attending physician and VA Chief of Staff, the patient shall be transferred to an appropriate VA or private medical treatment facility based upon patient condition. The contract health care provider shall coordinate all transfers with the VA Clinical Resource Management Nurse prior to actual transfer. Contract health care providers shall seek the

approval of the VA Clinical Resource Management Nurse or designee before performing other actions for non-emergent procedures or treatments.

  • Patient Safety Compliance: Contract physician (s) shall follow all established patient safety and infection control standards of care. Contract physician (s) shall make every effort to prevent medication errors, falls, and patient injury caused by acts of commission or omission in the delivery of care.
  • Medications: Contractor provider(s) shall follow all established medication policies and procedures. No sample medications shall be provided to patients.
  • Discharge education: Contractor provider (s) shall provide discharge education and follow up instructions that are coordinated with the next care setting for all Hematology/Oncology clinical patients.

ADMINISTRATIVE: 10 % of time not involved in direct patient

  • Quality Improvement Meetings: The contract physician (s) shall participate in continuous quality improvement activities and meetings with committee participation as required by the FARGO VAHCS Chief of Service, Chief of Staff, or designee. Meeting Frequency (once a year, etc.)

- Routine consults:

Will be addressed within 7 calendar days indication recommendation for appointment and/or treatment. Consultations will be in accordance with Network Policy In the event the contractor fails to respond to a request within required timelines, the Primary Care and Specialty Medicine Service Line Leader, Contracting Officer’s Representative or the Contracting Officer will contact the contractor to determine the reason for the delay.
