Position Summary

The SOMD is responsible for overseeing the provision of Hanford Occupational Medical Services and advising DOE on medical issues.

***Relocation assistance will be considered for this role***

Core Responsibilities

  • Oversee staff of professionals that provide clinical services.
  • Involved with consultation, as needed, with clinic physician assistants (PAs) or nurse practitioners (NPs).
  • Apply appropriate DOE directives in the workplace.
  • Participate in meetings and committees, as requested.
  • Provide assessment and treatment of work-related illnesses and injuries.
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures, plus assist with interpretation if needed.
  • Provide urgent care of non-work-related injuries and illnesses as best supports site activities.
  • Manage and organize a team’s work to be delivered with efficiency, effectiveness and accuracy while still meeting budget requirements and standards of excellence for the clinic.
  • Assist with the recruiting and managing of physicians, nurses and other medical and non-medical staff plus oversee all training is executed appropriately for the clinic.
  • Fully understand the internal processes of all departments.
  • Examine and coordinate the clinic’s activities to guarantee medical quality

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Experience - shall have a minimum of three years of experience in the oversight and management of occupational medical programs similar in complexity.
  • Experience - Federal Government experience is desirable.
  • Education- Must be certified in Occupational and Environmental Medicine (OEM), Aerospace Medicine (AM), or Public Health and Preventive Medicine (PM) by the appropriate Medical or Osteopathic Medical certifying board.
  • Licensure - The SOMD shall possess a valid, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State
  • of Washington;
  • Security and Access- Must be eligible for a DOE Access Authorization.
