-Note from current GYN Onc regarding call:
Call is really minimal. Greater than 50% of cases are minimally invasive and go home same day or day after (including MIS Hysterectomies in patients younger than 65 y/o). Rounding is quick and efficient 20 min per patient per day total including exam, notes, discharge planning. Any patient with medical co-morbidities can be admitted to hospitalist service. Even between both Dignity hospitals as they are 10 minutes apart does not take long.

In general, I receive probably 1 call per week after hours from patients for prescription refills, etc. Surgical calls to the OR have averaged 1 time every other month, most often these are during business hours. Only three times in the last year have I gotten called into the OR evenings or weekends. There are exceptions that cannot be predicted including one time a patient bleeding vaginally from Stage IVB endometrial cancer while on chemo and having started prophylactic radiation. Required packing etc to derive benefit from XRT/emboliation/transexamic acid. But these patients are rare. And you can feel confident that Ironwood/medical system has resources to manage even these complicated patients. In patient consults occur perhaps twice per month and almost all of them have the other service as primary admitting team.

Given constraints of solo gynecologic oncologist in a busy multidisciplinary group, currently not giving chemotherapy. That also means most questions regarding treatment side-effects are managed by medical oncologist. Eventually this will change, but for now this is a big perk for the incoming locum.
