Job Description

Last Update: 7/09/19

Children’s Hospital of Michigan along with University Pediatricians is seeking an additional Neonatologist for a full-time opportunity with their well-established group in the Metro Detroit area. The group serves a 40-bed outborn unit at Children’s Hospital of Michigan, a level IV facility, as well as a 35-bed inborn unit at Hutzel Women’s Hospital, a level III facility. We have been members of the NICHD Neonatal Research Network since its inception in 1985. Additionally, we also have a NIH funded Perinatal Research Branch located at Hutzel Women’s Hospital.

Employed Neonatologists can choose between the clinician educator track or research educator track, based on preference. Neonatologists will take call 4-5 times per month. All call will be with additional house staff, fellows, or neonatal nurse practitioners. Additionally, all faculty attend at least one national conference in addition to any conference where their research is being presented.

The Neonatologists are a very cohesive group and have developed multiple clinical pathways very collaboratively. We hold case discussions every week so that input of all faculty can be obtained. We have excellent fellows, all of whom perform research and QI projects. The pediatric training program is large and very stable; the pediatric chairman and both hospital administrations are very supportive of the division of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine.

At CHM, Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine is one of the 5 Centers of Excellence. Since 1985, we have been members of the NICHD funded Neonatal Research Network and have led studies on Hypothermia for Neonatal HIE, as well as Antenatal Phenobarbital for prevention of Neonatal ICH and long term outcome after maternal substance use. Four to five faculty members participate in the NRN as site PIs for different studies. The proximity to the Perinatal Research Branch also promotes collaboration with Obstetrics and Maternal Fetal Medicine. There are excellent Pediatric Medical and Surgical subspecialty physicians to work with. The nursing staff is very experienced with high quality care.

We are seeking a strong clinician with an interest in teaching. An interest in research would also be a great addition as there are opportunities for clinical and laboratory research. Experience with high frequency, ventilation/jet ventilation, inhaled nitric oxide therapy, hypothermia for neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, care of extreme preterm infants, performing antenatal consults and fetal assessment clinic evaluations with high risk pregnant patients are all preferred. Ideal candidates will have experience working in a level IV unit.

All candidates must be BE/BC and eligible to obtain licensure in the State of Michigan. Please note that all of our J-1 waiver positions have been filled for 2019.

If interested, please submit a copy of your current CV for immediate consideration. All inquiries and personal information are kept confidential.
