In this position, you will be accountable for all clinical aspects of the Specialty division. Your work will be 80% clinical and 20% administrative. You will provide daily oversight and administrative support to specialty providers and teams. You will implement medical group and health plan strategic initiatives in designated clinics, ensure adherence to clinical guidelines, and build best practices to achieve positive outcomes for their sites. You will recruit, hire and retain successful medical providers and provide education, support and feedback on individual performance and direct all aspects of clinical care delivery.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide excellent clinical specialty services as required, adopting best practices and evidenced based medicine
  • Provide administrative/managerial direction and oversight to specialty providers that includes the following:
  • Assist with coordination of specialty resources to maximize efficiency and optimize patient care
  • Perform quarterly chart reviews on specialty chiefs
  • Perform quarterly evaluations on specialty chiefs for bonus purposes
  • Chair monthly Specialty Leadership meetings as required
  • Analyze performance metrics for specialty RVU productivity, coding practices, and quality indicators
  • Ensure timely submission of charges and correct coding for specialty physicians and extenders
  • Coordinate any necessary disciplinary action in collaboration with the Senior Medical Director, Specialty
  • Maintain appropriate specialty staffing and oversight of specialty vacation, CME time, and budgeting for positions to maintain FTEs within budgeted allotment
  • Attend all pertinent meetings related to specialty operations and administration
  • Address any identified quality assurance issues with specialty providers and ascribe QA leveling points as required
  • Support measures to improve STAR and HEDIS scores as appropriate by specialty

Required Qualifications:

  • Active, unrestricted medical license to practice in the state of Colorado
  • 5+ years clinical experience and board certification
  • Must have completed Medical School, Residency program, USMLE exam, and be board eligible or board certified for either the American Board of Medical Specialties (MDs) or the American Board of Osteopathic Specialties (DOs)
  • Full COVID-19 vaccination is an essential requirement of this role. UnitedHealth Group will adhere to all federal, state and local regulations as well as all client requirements and will obtain necessary proof of vaccination prior to employment to ensure compliance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • This position will have a broad range of training
  • Knowledge of managed care principles, best clinical practices, and strong familiarity with the referral process
  • Possess a high degree of work ethic and quality of medical care
  • Possess knowledge of managing people, strong MS Word Suite competency and proven track record of successful endeavors
  • Solid leadership skills, excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills

Colorado Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $254,600 to $295,200. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
