Hospital near the Vermont Green Mountains is looking for an experienced Critical Care physician to lead their Intensivist group. Medical Center has a well-established Critical Care service. The Hospital is the second largest in Vermont and is a full-service community hospital with many medical and surgical specialties represented. The optimal candidate has greater than 7 years of Intensivist experience, and strong clinical, procedural, and administrative skills. The position is approximately 75% clinical and 25% administrative directorship of the Intensive Care unit. The unit is a 13-bed multidisciplinary Medical-Surgical unit. The Critical Care team consists of 2.5 Intensivist FTEs and 3 Critical Care Advanced Practice Clinician FTEs. The Intensivists function as the attendings for all Medical ICU admissions, and as consultants/co-managers for all Surgical ICU admissions. They provide primary in-house day coverage, consult for the ED and inpatient services, and serve as a backup resource for the night in-house Advanced Practice Clinicians.

The Administrative Directorship can include medical leadership of Respiratory Care as well as a chronic ventilator care unit in a nearby extended care facility. Strong intrapersonal and communication skills are essential.

The right candidate will support trainee education and supervision for ICU rotations for from the University of Vermont College of Medicine and various PA and NP programs. A Clinical appointment at the University of Vermont College of Medicine is available.

The ICU has experienced nursing representation, strong respiratory care support, and a clinical pharmacist and nutritionist as part of the ICU team. They also have an active palliative care support service integrated into their system of care. They use the Cerner EMR and the GE PACS system.

The culture of the practice is one of collegial professionalism, mutual support, and integrated internal systems of care including shared patient care with their Emergency Department, Hospitalist Program, Anesthesiology and Surgical services. They also foster strong relationships with both Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and the University of Vermont Medical Center who serve as their local tertiary care referral centers.
