Job Description

In partnership with NYC Health + Hospitals/North Central Bronx our teams handle more than 156,000 outpatient visits, more than 50,000 emergency room visits and more than 7,500 admissions annually in the 232-bed facility. The hospital maintains an academic affiliation with the James J. Peters VA Medical Center.


The Director of Midwifery is responsible for the overall planning, development and management of the administrative, clinical, educational, fiscal, research and evaluative functions required in a large division that provides primary womens healthcare in both an inpatient and outpatient setting with multidisciplinary team members

  • Plans, develops, manages and directs all aspects of the Midwifery Division
  • Evaluates and responds to reports and assesses the quality of care provided by staff
  • Responsible for hiring evaluating and terminating staff
  • Directs the Midwifery educational Programs ( precertification,Direct Entry
  • Provides and coordinates educational opportunities for students and /or staff
  • Participates in lectures and clinical supervision of students and staff
  • Participates in planning and supervision of childbirth and womens health education programs
  • Collaborates with other services and programs
  • Implements appropriate staff disciplinary action
  • Provides career guidance to students and staff
  • Provides direct professional midwifery care when appropriate
  • Represents the hospital , division or department
  • Is available 24/7 for the midwifery staff for consultation
  1. Current NYS license as Midwife
  2. Board Certified by the American College of Nurse Midwives
  3. Masters Degree with minimum 10 years experience in supervisory capacity or its equivalent
  4. Enrolled in the ACNM CCA Cycle or the CMP ( Certificate Maintainence program)
