Internal Medicine Division Director in Texas

The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston, Texas is seeking an exceptional academic leader experienced in clinical operations to lead and continue to grow the clinical division of inpatient and outpatient internal medicine. Successful applicants will be eligible for appointment at the Associate or Professor level, have prior administrative and leadership experience and a passion for patient care and education.

The incoming director will lead and further develop the clinical operations and scholarship within the division of more than 24 physician faculty in addition to nurse practitioners. The goals of the division include providing a patient-centered environment, being the leading teachers in patient care and quality improvement, and cultivating an environment that nurtures and rewards lifelong learning, collaboration with colleagues, and attainment of maximum potential. Other opportunities include the charge to retain and develop excellent faculty, build a clinical program that fosters excellent clinical service to the community and grow quality and outcomes research.

Participate in teaching students in the oldest and first medical school in Texas and oversee a thriving residency program with 94 current residents. The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) is the 10th largest medical school in the country with 240 medical students per year. UTMB focuses on Interprofessional education between the School of Medicine, Nursing, and Health Professionals preparing students for the future of health care in a team-based approach. A leader in education, UTMB is home to the Galveston National Laboratory, one of only two BSL-4 laboratories on a University campus in the country.

We are seeking applicants who ideally have knowledge of general medicine health care delivery systems in the inpatient and ambulatory settings. The division’s clinical programs are centered around promoting patient and family-centered care, effective communication, efficiency, monitoring and improving outcomes, resident education, and improving consistency and continuity of care across the continuum. UTMB is ideally located on the resort island of Galveston, Texas. Galveston is located less than an hour from Houston and faculty have the option to live in the historic beachfront neighborhoods on Galveston Island or in one of several growing suburbs between Houston and Galveston.
