The Medical Director is responsible for the provision of medical services and supervision of Site Medical Directors.

Education:

  • Graduate from an accredited Medical School.

Experience:

  • At least five years of progressively responsible management experience providing health services of similar scope and complexity.
  • 2 years of experience in primary care preferred.
  • Experience in correctional behavioral health care is preferred.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Licensed in the state of practice;
  • Holds a current DEA and D.P.S. certificate of registration.
  • Board Certified in one of the following: Internal Medicine, Family Practice, Surgery, Preventive Medicine, or Emergency Medicine.

  1. Recruit, select, train and supervise the Site Medical Directors, primary care physicians, advanced practitioners and dentists utilized throughout the Massachusetts prison system;
  2. Ensure physician availability and coverage both on-site and on-call;
  3. Manage provider scheduling;
  4. Participate in specific case conferences for special needs inmates regarding medical needs, placement, and release planning;
  5. Establish evidence-based guidelines and clinical pathways for disease management to include detailed documentation standards;
