A New York City medical facility is currently seeking an experienced, licensed Registered Nurse (RN) to join their staff as their new Senior Director of Risk Management. In this role, the Senior Director of Risk Management (RN) will be responsible for ensuring coordination of a comprehensive approach for the identification, review, evaluation and resolution of potential and actual clinical events which pose risks to current and future patients and which have or may not have the potential for litigation.

Responsibilities:

The Senior Director of Risk Management (RN) will:

  • Advocate for the reduction of institutional risk by leading in identifying trends, patterns or significant issues, and assists in developing policies and strategies to eliminate, resolve or minimize such risks
  • Interface with Administration and other Hospital Departments to identify and handle problems, incidents, issues of concern
  • Coordinate and provide staff education and in-service training to fostering adherence to risk management standards, established risk management protocols and risk reduction initiatives
  • Provide responsive information including patient or other information, to legal consultants, lawyers and insurance carriers on medical malpractice claims, incidents and lawsuits in the defense of such claims
  • Conduct problem resolution daily for patient care, risk issues or other clinical issues raised by the medical staff, managers and staff
  • Participate in all Root Cause Analysis meetings and provides risk reduction strategies with measure of effectiveness to ensure best practice outcomes
  • Manage medical malpractice, general liability and other claims, subpoenas, etc. managed by Risk Management during the litigation process
  • Interact with Health Information Management and other relevant personnel assigned to maintain records of matters in suit and privacy issues related to release of information
  • Conduct the initial investigations on potentially compensable events (PCE), adverse occurrences and quality issues as referred by Hospital staff
  • Prepare on a quarterly basis or as needed reports of risk management, peer review, incidents and lawsuits or any other reports
  • Research, write and implement departmental and facility policies and procedures that affect liability exposures
  • Ensure the integration of that information into the credentialing process in compliance with State and Federal agencies, The Joint Commission and institutional requirements
  • Facilitate and/or provide risk management education on an ongoing basis and as requested by the Hospital staff, including orientation for new providers and employees
  • Develop an annual education plan and track compliance as part of the Risk Management program
  • Perform other duties, as needed

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in a large Hospital Risk Management, Quality Management, Infectious Diseases, and/or Peer Review program
  • 5+ years of Nursing experience in an Acute Care setting
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
  • NYS Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Comprehensive knowledge of current legislation and trends in Risk Management
  • Knowledge of Clinical and Non-clinical Loss Control measures
  • Solid assessment and documentation skills
  • Great interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Highly organized

  • Associate in Risk Management (ARM) or Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CHPRM)
